Disney announced Wednesday that the companies will be merging their respective Star India and Viacom18 units into a newly created Star India joint venture, valued at roughly $8.5 billion on a post-money basis, excluding synergies. The merger is expected to have more than 750 million viewers in the rapidly growing Indian market. Cricket feverDisney acquired Indian streaming service Hotstar and Star TV channels in 2019 and had exclusive streaming rights to cricket's lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), which it had turned into a paid service by 2020. "There is an understanding with Tesla's proposal and government is showing interest," said the official, who is familiar with the issue. Indonesia, for example, has offered to reduce import duties from 50% to zero for EV makers planning investments, a move seen aimed at attracting Chinese players and Tesla. Russia's amassing $1 billion worth of Indian rupees each month that it's struggling to use. India has been buying Russian oil using rupees as Moscow has been shut out of the USD-denominated global payments system. And it's not like Russia can send the rupees back home either because India has restrictions over capital flows by foreign investors — the country is looking at $2 to $3 billion worth of rupees stuck in India every quarter. India and Russia are now trying to work out how Russia can use its mounting rupee stash. Another option under discussion is having Russia channel the rupees into Indian infrastructure projects in exchange for equity stakes, per the media outlet.

India's coal arrivals are already heading higher, with data from commodity analysts Kpler pointing to a rise in thermal coal imports to 10.19 million tonnes in February, up from 9.71 million tonnes in January and the most since November. It's likely that thermal coal imports may decline over the coming years, but predictions that this trade will end by 2030 are ambitious. Where India will see increasing coal imports is in higher-grade metallurgical coal, used primarily to make steel. Given that each GW of generation requires around 3 million tonnes of coal annually, this implies the coming capacity additions will only need another 100 million tonnes, well below the 500 million tonnes extra the industry believes it will deliver by 2030. Overall, it appears the positive mood of India's coal sector is justified, especially in the short term.

BENGALURU, Feb 13 (Reuters) - India wants to more than triple annual defence exports to $5 billion by 2024/25 from $1.5 billion currently as it looks to ramp up domestic manufacturing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday while inaugurating the Aero India show. "Today, India is not just a market for defence companies, it is also a potential defence partner," Modi said in his speech at the show. "I call on India's private sector to invest more and more in the country's defence sector." India, for decades one of the world's biggest importers of defence equipment, now exports to 75 countries, he added. India's airlines are also expanding, with Tata Group's Air India expected to announce a potentially record deal to buy nearly 500 jets from Airbus and Boeing, worth more than $100 billion at list prices.

The launch of Amazon Air in India comes as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is undergoing a broad review of the company's expenses as it stares down a worsening economic outlook and slowing retail sales. Amazon Air, which debuted in 2016, outsources operations to several airlines.
